Direct Debits through your own GoCardless account.

Customers set up a Direct Debit on GoCardless’s own page, and StoreBay collects each invoice from it automatically.

You connect your GoCardless account in Payment providers. StoreBay adds nothing to GoCardless’s fee.

How GoCardless works in StoreBay.

Customers authorise on GoCardless’s own page.

  • At your online checkout, a customer chooses Direct Debit and is taken to GoCardless to set it up.
  • You can also email a customer a secure link, or they can add one from their own account.
  • They authorise on GoCardless’s own page, so there are no paper forms.
  • Each invoice is then collected automatically.

Illustration: a customer’s booking on the operator’s website, for a 50 sq ft drive-up size at £126.00 a month including VAT. Four steps: Choose a size, done; Your details, done; Agreement, sign the licence, now; Payment, by card or by setting up a Direct Debit, next.

You can see where each Direct Debit is.

A Direct Debit moves from Requested to With the bank to Collected, so you can see where it is. Every invoice and payment shows its status on the customer’s record and in your payments list.

Illustration: one Direct Debit of £126.00 shown two ways. In the operator’s payments list it reads With the bank, collecting on 8 September. On the customer’s screen it reads: Collecting, we’ve asked your bank for £126.00, it’s taken on 8 September.

A failed Direct Debit is tried again, after notice.

  • When StoreBay retries a failed Direct Debit automatically, it does so after fresh notice to the customer.
  • Reminder emails go out on the schedule you set, counted from the failed payment.

Illustration: a Direct Debit of £126.00 for unit 9 that has failed, with the emails StoreBay sends by default after it: a payment reminder on day 2, a second reminder on day 5, a late fee notice on day 8 with a £15.00 late fee, and a final notice on day 14.

When the bank reverses a Direct Debit.

  • A bank can reverse a Direct Debit after it has cleared.
  • When that happens, the invoice goes back to owing and the chasing picks it up again.
