Stora alternatives for UK operators
Besides Stora, we checked seven platforms that sell to UK self storage operators: StoreBay, which wrote this page, then 6Storage, Kinnovis, SiteLink, Space Manager, Storeganise and Storman. Which fits depends on why you are looking. Stora’s terms ask for written notice at least 7 days before a month ends, unless your order form says otherwise. Checked 13 October 2026.
StoreBay wrote this page and is one of the seven. No platform paid to appear, and there are no affiliate links.

02 / Why compare
Why operators compare Stora
Stora is rated 4.8 from 21 reviews on Capterra UK. Most of what operators weigh is in its own pages and terms, so they are set out first. All were read on 13 October 2026.
What Stora’s own pages and terms say
- 01
Three plans, priced by your units
Essentials is £126 a month at 50 units and £1,289 at 2,000 paying monthly, or £105 and £1,074 a month paying yearly, before VAT. Advanced and Premium cost more at every size up to 2,000 units.
- 02
Gates, API and roles sit on higher plans
Stora’s smart entry integrations and public API come with Advanced and up. Custom roles and unlimited team members come with Premium only; Essentials has 5 team members and Advanced 10.
- 03
Payment fees are Stora’s, before VAT
Stora lists cards from 1.5% + 30p and Direct Debits at 1% (minimum 30p), and says its prices exclude VAT unless stated otherwise.
- 04
Onboarding has a fee; migrations are free
Stora charges an onboarding fee that varies with what you need, and says free migrations are available to all.
- 05
Renewal is monthly, with 7 days’ notice
Stora’s terms renew month by month, whether you pay monthly or yearly, and ask for written notice at least 7 days before the month ends. An invoice or order form can say otherwise, so read yours.
- 06
Your data: no rights for Stora, an export at the end
Stora’s terms say it obtains no right, title or interest in your data. They let it delete your data where payments stay unpaid, after reasonable attempts to seek payment. Its data addendum says that when the agreement ends you are given an opportunity to export your data in a standard file format, after which Stora deletes all copies of your personal data within its control.
- 07
Hosting is in the EU
Stora’s terms list its application and database hosting as EU. UK data protection law treats a transfer of personal data to an EEA state as approved (general information, not legal advice), so EU hosting is not itself a bar. Some operators still prefer UK hosting.

- On 4 September 2026 it listed contracts an operator can edit and assign, one per unit type if wanted, and a pre-filled contract to print for signing in person.
- On 8 July 2026 it listed a setting that asks for a signed contract, a verified ID or both before a customer gets access to a unit, with access unlocking automatically.
What Stora’s reviews say
All 21 of Stora’s reviews on Capterra UK were read and counted for what each says it likes and would change. A theme is printed when two or more reviews show it; praise and requests for change are shown together.

- 8 of 21 reviews praise the support or the team
- 7 of 21 reviews praise the automation or the time it saves

- Shown by one review each, so counted but not listed: 2 praise and 4 would-change themes.
- 3 of 21 reviews said there was nothing to change.
- Capterra’s own sentiment line for Stora reads 95% positive, 5% neutral and 0% negative.
- The 21 reviews run from 21 May 2021 to 31 July 2025; 12 of them are more than three years old.
- Stora answered 17 of the 21 reviews in public.
StoreBay is new and has no public reviews yet, so there are none to set beside these.
03 / When to stay
When staying on Stora makes sense
Stora’s own pages list these. If one of them is why you chose it, moving may not be worth it.
Choose Stora if
- You want a named list of smart entry integrations to check
- You want a public API and an app marketplace now
- You want dynamic pricing or built-in protection sales
- You need a supplier certified to ISO 27001
What each step up in Stora’s plans adds
If the API or gate control is the only gap, price the next plan before you price a move. This is what each step up adds each month, paying monthly, before VAT.
| Units | Essentials to Advanced | Essentials to Premium |

04 / What to check
What to check in any Stora alternative
- 01
Online booking and signing
Check that customers can book, sign and pay online on the plan you would buy, and who hosts the website they book on.
- 02
Fees on your own payments
Ask each provider for its rates in writing. Work out the fee on your usual payment, once for cards and once for Direct Debit, with VAT shown separately.
- 03
How Direct Debit moves
Ask whose Bacs service user number collects your mandates, and whether they move in bulk or each customer signs up again. A bulk change takes weeks.
- 04
Your exact gate system
Name your gate or lock system. Ask who connects it, whether it works on the plan you would buy, and whether late payers are locked out automatically.
- 05
Staff logins and roles
Count the people who need a login. Ask which roles you can set on the plan you would buy.
- 06
Price at your size and at double it
Get the price for your units today and for twice that, on the plan you would really need, with every extra site and add-on in it.
- 07
Late fees and reminders
Ask whether late fees and reminders run on a schedule you set, or whether someone has to apply them by hand.
- 08
UK fit and leaving terms
Check VAT invoices, licence-to-occupy wording, UK support hours and where your data is hosted. Then read the notice and data-return terms before you sign.
Fees, both ways
On the rates each lists: Stora’s cards are from 1.5% + 30p and Stripe’s standard UK cards are 1.5% + 20p, so the percentage is the same and StoreBay’s Stripe route is 10p lower a payment; on Direct Debit, Stora’s is 20p lower wherever 1% is above its 30p minimum, until GoCardless’s cap applies. StoreBay adds nothing to either. Stora lists these rates for Essentials and Advanced and none for Premium. Stora’s and GoCardless’s prices exclude VAT.
05 / The alternatives

“No public evidence” means we looked on the vendor’s public pages and couldn’t find it, never that the vendor lacks it. Each comparison lists its sources and the date we checked them.
08 / Leaving
Leaving Stora: notice, data, payments and cutover
The steps below run in the order that keeps your data, your payments and your customers safe. Check each against your own order form.
- 01
Read your order form, then the terms
Stora’s terms renew month by month, whether you pay monthly or yearly, and ask for written notice at least 7 days before the month ends. An invoice or order form can say otherwise, so read yours first.
- 02
Choose the cutover date first
Pick a billing boundary in a quiet month, and run one cycle in parallel if you can, so the last invoice and the first one do not overlap.
- 03
Export before you give notice
Stora’s terms let it delete your data where payments stay unpaid, after reasonable attempts to seek payment. Settle the last invoice and take your exports first. Its data addendum gives you an opportunity to export your data when the agreement ends, and then deletes all copies of your personal data within its control.
- 04
Keep your records for six years
In England and Wales a claim on a contract can be brought up to six years after it arises, and HMRC expects VAT records for at least six years. Keep signed agreements, invoices and payment records.
- 05
Direct Debit: find out who holds the mandates
Ask in writing whose Bacs service user number collects them. GoCardless says a bulk change away needs both sponsor banks to authorise it, comes with a pre-filled deed to complete, and can take 3-5 weeks. Otherwise each customer sets up a new Direct Debit. Plan it so no one pays twice or misses a month.
- 06
Saved cards: ask what can move
Ask which processor holds your customers’ saved cards and whether it will transfer them. Stora says its own migrations bring payment methods in; ask it in writing what it can do for a customer who leaves.
- 07
Gate codes: switch off the old lockout
List your gate or lock system and where its codes live. Stora’s overlocking locks out late payers automatically, so switch it off at cutover, or it could lock out a customer who has already paid in the new system.
- 08
Website and domain
Find out who controls your domain and its DNS. List your current page addresses and redirect the old booking pages. Update your Google Business Profile, ads and email links.
- 09
Switch off the old automation
On cutover day, turn off the old system’s reminders, late fees, card retries, price-increase notices and lockouts. Then work through your cutover-day list: payments, access, website, emails.
- 10
Keep your own copy
Download the reports, invoices and records you want to keep before your account closes.
Moving from Stora to StoreBay
We bring your records across
Your customers, units and agreements come across in a guided import that our team runs with you.
You check before anything is saved
Every import runs as a dry run first, so you see exactly what will be created before anything is saved.
Payment details are planned separately
Saved cards and Direct Debit instructions don’t come across in the import. We plan that part with you before you switch.
09 / Questions
Stora alternatives: common questions
There is no single best one. We checked seven platforms: StoreBay, 6Storage, Kinnovis, SiteLink, Space Manager, Storeganise and Storman. Which fits depends on your gate system, your API and staff needs, and whether you want a published price. Checked 13 October 2026.
Paying monthly, Stora’s Essentials plan is £126 a month at 50 units and £1,289 at 2,000, before VAT. At 50 and 2,000 units StoreBay is £63 and £999 a month plus VAT, so its plan costs less than every Stora plan at every size up to 2,000 units. Storeganise’s calculator, for one location, is higher than StoreBay’s at 50 and 250 units (Storeganise £80 and £180, StoreBay £63 and £159) and lower at 1,000 and 2,000 units (Storeganise £280 and £560, StoreBay £519 and £999), and below Stora’s Essentials at all four; more locations can raise it. The other five platforms did not publish a price list we could find on 13 October 2026. Compare what each price includes.
Stora’s terms renew month by month, whether you pay monthly or yearly, and ask for written notice at least 7 days before the month ends, unless an invoice or order form says otherwise. Checked 13 October 2026.
Stora’s terms say it obtains no right, title or interest in your data, and its data addendum says you are given an opportunity to export your data in a standard file format when the agreement ends, after which Stora deletes all copies of your personal data within its control. Its terms also let it delete your data where payments stay unpaid, after reasonable attempts to seek payment, so settle the last invoice and export first. Checked 13 October 2026.
Not by themselves. Ask Stora whose Bacs service user number collects them. GoCardless says a bulk change away needs both sponsor banks to authorise it, comes with a pre-filled deed to complete, and can take 3-5 weeks; otherwise each customer sets up a new Direct Debit. StoreBay plans this part with you. Checked 13 October 2026.
Ask which processor holds them and whether it will move them to a new one. Stora says its own migrations bring current agreements and payment methods across when it moves a customer to Stora; ask it in writing what it can do for a customer who leaves. Checked 13 October 2026.
Name your system and check it on each platform’s list. All seven say they connect to gate or lock systems of some kind. Stora’s connections come with Advanced and up, and Space Manager’s pages describe a “Remove Overlock” prompt when payments are reconciled, but we found no page that says a late payer is locked out. Checked 13 October 2026.
Of the seven, StoreBay and Storeganise publish prices. Kinnovis, SiteLink, Space Manager, 6Storage and Storman did not publish a price list we could find on 13 October 2026. Stora publishes prices up to 2,000 units.
Stora has 4.8 from 21 reviews on Capterra UK. Reviewers most often say it is easy to use or quick to learn (11 of 21), praise the support or the team (8 of 21) and praise the automation or the time it saves (7 of 21). The change most often asked for: 6 of 21 reviews name a feature they say is missing. Checked 13 October 2026.
Yes. Our team runs a guided import of your customers, units and agreements, with a dry run first so you see what will be created. Saved card details and Direct Debit instructions are handled separately, and we plan that part with you.
StoreBay wrote it and is one of the seven, so it is not neutral in the way an independent reviewer is. Every statement about another platform comes from its own public pages or a public register, dated; every platform answered the same questions, including those StoreBay loses; no platform paid to appear.
10 / How we compared
How we compared, and our sources
What we read
We read the public pages of Stora and the six other platforms in a browser on 13 October 2026, all on the same day, and keep a dated copy of what we read. Every statement about another platform comes from its public pages, its terms or a public register, apart from its reviews, which come from Capterra UK.
How prices were read
Stora’s prices were read by moving the slider on its pricing page through every size from 1 to 2,000 units, never worked out from its code.
How reviews were counted
All 21 of Stora’s Capterra UK reviews were counted against a fixed list of 18 themes. Two separate AI passes labelled each review, a third AI read settled the few labels that differed, and a script checks that the words each label rests on appear in its review. Praise is read from a review’s overall and pros text and requests for change from its cons text, so praise written in a title or in the cons box is not counted. A theme is printed when two or more reviews show it; 2 praise and 4 would-change themes shown by one review each are counted but not listed. 3 reviews said they had nothing to change. We do not quote reviewers.
How events are written
An event is printed only when a public register or the company’s own page states it, in neutral words, with its date. We give no reasons, no deal values and no names of individuals.
Changes since the last check
None: first published 13 October 2026.
“No public evidence” is not “no”
When we can’t find something on a vendor’s public pages, we say exactly that and nothing stronger.
StoreBay’s column is what’s live today
StoreBay’s column describes the product as it is today. Anything we don’t offer is marked “No”.
