04 / Where each is stronger

What each one does better

Neither does everything. Here’s where each one leads, from the same sources as the rest of this page.

Where StoreBay is stronger

  • A price you can see

StoreBay publishes its price, with a calculator that prices up to 20,000 units. We found no price list on Kinnovis’s website: it sends a custom breakdown of its pricing on request.

  • Your primary data in London

StoreBay keeps its primary data in DigitalOcean’s London data centre. Kinnovis GmbH is an Austrian company, and we found no hosting location named on its public pages, including its privacy policy.

  • E-signing built in

StoreBay’s e-signing is its own, so there’s no separate account to connect: customers sign the agreement as part of booking online, or from a link you email. Kinnovis sends contracts on booking through your own Signable account, connected by API.

Where Kinnovis is stronger

  • Its own access system and hardware

Kinnovis offers its own access system, Kinnovis Access, with door and gate hardware, inside the same software as bookings and billing: if a customer’s payment fails, access stops, and it resumes when they pay. A local controller on site keeps PIN entry working through internet outages.

  • A public API now

Kinnovis Connect, its public API, comes with a sandbox and documentation, and its release notes say it can now create and update customers, units and bookings. StoreBay’s API and webhooks are included in the plan.

  • Booking on your own website, or a free one

Kinnovis’s booking portal can sit on the website you already have, in your branding. If you have none, it offers a free website built by Amax Marketing, which you own once the project is complete.

  • More ways to add revenue

With Kinnovis you can sell extras such as padlocks and packing supplies when customers book online, raise prices on existing bookings with advance emails to customers, and sell protection plans under a policy you buy from a third party.

  • A track record and public reviews

Kinnovis’s parent company built it to run its own self-storage business in Austria, Store Room, which launched in 2018. Kinnovis’s home page lists it as winner of the 2024 SSA UK Innovation Award and the 2023 FEDESSA Innovation Award, and it’s rated 4.7 from 21 reviews on Capterra UK. StoreBay is new and has none yet.

05 / Switching

Moving from Kinnovis to StoreBay

What comes across, how you check it, and what you set up again.

  1. 1

    We bring your records across

Your customers, units and agreements come across in a guided import that our team runs with you.

  2. 2

You check before anything is saved

Every import runs as a dry run first, so you see exactly what will be created before anything is saved.

  3. 3

    Payment details are planned separately

Saved cards and Direct Debit instructions don’t come across in the import. We plan that part with you before you switch.

Before you give notice to Kinnovis

  • Check your plan’s term

Kinnovis’s FAQ says it offers monthly and annual plans, and that the monthly plan has no fixed-term commitment. Check which plan you’re on.

  • Ask for the notice in writing

Ask in writing how much notice your plan needs, and the date your account will close.

  • Export your data first

Kinnovis’s release notes say you can export your customers, invoices, credit notes, bookings and units.

  • Keep your own copy

Download the reports, invoices and records you want to keep before your account closes.
